Treating Plantar Fasciitis: Chiropractic Care from the Bottom Up

Insight Chiropractic has a special focus on problems of the feet. Our San Jose foot care chiropractor, Dr. Jennifer Forster, knows how important healthy feet are to your ability to function smoothly. When your feet are healthy you can walk, run, enjoy sports, and easily perform everyday activities. But when you are suffering from inflammatory feet or swollen ankles your whole body is affected. Pain in your feet may cause you to alter the way you walk which could affect your knees, hips and back.

One foot condition many people experience is plantar fasciitis. There is a thick band called the plantar fascia in our feet. This band runs across the bottom of your foot from the toes through the arch and to the sole. When it becomes inflamed it can become very difficult to walk. This inflammation may be caused by extended periods of walking or standing, overexertion and excessive pounding during running, or shoes that don’t provide adequate support. Overweight people or pregnant women may experience this condition due to the added stress placed on their feet.

If you have inflammatory feet or swollen ankles you may be suffering from plantar fasciitis. You might first notice a stabbing pain in the heel of your foot, especially when you first begin walking after waking up. This pain may subside as the day goes on and you begin to stretch this band again. Other signs may include tenderness in the sole, swollen ankles, and tightness in the arch.

Find Relief from Plantar Fasciitis Pain

If you are experiencing symptoms of plantar fasciitis, our chiropractor has a number of therapies and treatments which can help provide pain management. Dr. Forster has specific knowledge regarding extremity adjustment, particularly regarding the feet. When you first come to Insight Chiropractic complaining of pain in your feet, we perform a thorough exam and scan the entire area including the arch, sole and heel to fully understand the cause of your pain. If we determine that there is a problem with your plantar fascia we develop a treatment plan to help manage that pain and address any other areas of your body that may have been affected by this imbalance.

Depending on your medical situation and the extent of your pain, physical therapy may be recommended to help stretch and loosen the plantar fascia. We may recommend massage therapy to reduce the pain of swollen ankles and promote the flow of healing nutrients back into your feet. Therapeutic icing or custom orthotics may be part of your healing process, or Dr. Forster might provide hands-on chiropractic adjustments to help restore the range of motion in your feet and legs. If the problem is related to weight, we may provide nutritional counseling and lifestyle advice to help relieve some of the pressure on your feet. We will also advise you on exercises you can perform at home to help get you back on your feet. Insight Chiropractic provides total body care from the feet up.
